Chickens, Turkeys and Waterfowl
The poultry at Kaizen Roots are instrumental in soil-building and fertilization. We have a rotational mix of poultry, but typically will have the following available for purchase at hatchings:
Chickens - Jersey Giants and Rhode Island Reds
Turkeys - Bourbon Reds and Royal Palms
Geese - Brown Chinese Ducks, Khaki Campbell, Fawn Runners, Silver Appleyards and Cayugas
Pigs
Kunekune (pronounced “cooney cooney”) Pigs are originally from New Zealand. They are a small, slow-growing breed of pig and are very docile and even-tempered. Kunekunes are excellent grazers.
Southdown and East Friesian Sheep
Southdown Sheep are a dual-purpose breed of sheep (wool and meat). East Friesian Sheep are also a dual breed (wool and dairy). Both are integral players in pasture management practices.
Scottish Highland Cows
Scottish Highland Cows are named after their native Highland region in Scotland. Scottish Highlands are easy to identify with their shaggy coats and horns. They are extremely hardy, proficient foragers and gentle giants.
